Policy Development and Legislative Committee

  1. This advisory committee reviews policies and oversees annual review cycles of Board policies, including student handbooks, to be recommended to the Board of Education.
  2. This committee will work together as advocates for the district to discuss significant legislative issues related to education and provide input on these initiatives. This information will be provided to the Board of Education in an effort to establish open and consistent communication between the district and local, state and national elected officials.

HB4261 Teacher Performance Assessment Task Force
Provides that the Teacher Performance Assessment Task force shall report on the its work, including certain recommendations to the State Board of Education and the General Assembly on or before October 31, 2024 (rather than August 1, 20204).
 
HB4219 Fentanyl Education Grades 6-8
Amends the comprehensive Health Education Program Section of the School Code.  Beginning with the 2024-2025 school year, the bill extends the requirements that the health education program include instruction, study, and discussion of the dangers of fentanyl to grade 6-8 (currently only required in grade 9-12).  Further provides the information provided on fentanyl be age and developmentally appropriate.  Instruction may include information contained in the Substance Use Prevention and Recovery Instruction Resource Guide.  Allows for the instruction on this topic to be taught by a licensed educator, school nurse, school social worker, law enforcement officer, or school counselor.
