SD 308 Hiring Process Guide

 
At Oswego Community Unit School District 308, we are committed to finding passionate and qualified individuals to join our team. Below is an overview of our hiring process to guide you through each step:
 
Step 1: Submit Your Application
Candidates can submit an application that reflects one or more positions of interest. Our application system allows you to apply to as many open positions as you’d like. Once your application is submitted, you will receive an email confirmation verifying that we have received your materials.
 
Step 2: Application Review
Our hiring administrators (typically building principals or department directors) will carefully review applications. If your qualifications and experience align with the needs of our district, a hiring administrator will reach out to you directly with interview details.
 
Step 3: Interview Process
If selected, you will be invited to participate in an interview. The format may vary depending on the position and school or department. Some positions may require multiple interview rounds.
 
Step 4: Offer & Hiring
If you are selected for a position, you will receive an official offer from a staff member in Human Resources. Following your acceptance, they will send you an email with onboarding details and next steps to finalize your employment.
 
Step 5: Onboarding & Pre-Employment Requirements
To ensure a smooth transition into your new role, onboarding includes the following requirements:
Paperwork completion (employment forms, payroll setup, etc.)
Fingerprinting & Background Verification Checks
Health Exam (to be completed within 30 days of your start date)

Student Teachers, Interns, and Observers

 

Student Teaching

District 308 cooperates with various colleges and universities that have approved teacher-training programs to place student teachers in district schools. Qualifications of students in these programs are acceptable to the district, and the student's respective college or university is assigned to supervising teachers. Students interested in a student teaching placement with District 308 should contact their colleges or universities.


Student Observations

College students enrolled in an approved teacher-training program can request observation hours by providing the district with a letter of approval from their college or university and completing a student observation request form. Placements will depend on teacher availability and principal approval.
 

Substitute Employees

 
Substitute teachers and support staff are valuable and important members of District 308 schools, serving to provide students with continuity in the learning process.

Volunteers and Chaperones

 
If you are interested in volunteering with District 308 or chaperoning on a District 308 field trip, please contact the principal of the building you are interested in volunteering or chaperoning at.  Building principals are responsible for determining the need for and placement of volunteers and chaperones at their respective buildings.  Any volunteer who assists students on a regular basis (once per week throughout the school year) and every person who chaperones on a District 308 field trip must first successfully complete a fingerprint-based criminal background check.
