Welcome Back Old Post Families,

It's amazing how quickly two years has gone by.  This has been such a wonderful two years and I am excitedly looking forward to our third year together.  As we continue to grow together and learn from each other, I hope that you continue to know how humbled I am by my role in SD308, in the Oswego community and in your child's life.

We definitely shined like stars last year being recognized as a 2015 National Blue Ribbon School.  How awesome is that?  That accomplishment was a result of many people working together, and many stars shining brightly.  We will continue to shine like in Hollywood as we take ACTION at Old Post next year.

Our theme for the 2016-17 school year matches well with the 'Boosterthon' character theme "Backyard Box Office".  This year at Old Post we will take out our director's chairs, roll out the red carpet and take action.  Our theme for the 2016-17 school year is "Old Post Wildcats take ACTION (Achievement-Character-Teamwork-In-Our school, community-and Neighborhood)".  We will continue to show our excellence in achievement, build character and emphasize teamwork as we commit to making a difference in our school, neighborhood and community.

We will implement AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) in our 4th and 5th grade classrooms, as well as some AVID strategies school-wide to take action with achievement.  AVID's mission is to "close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society".  This mission is aligned so well with our school district mission.  This year we will take action with character by including Social Emotional Learning lessons weekly using a researched-based program called Second Step.  The Second Step program will assist teachers in guiding students to understand and regulate their emotions, problem solve and make responsible decisions.  We will also provide more opportunities for students and families to show teamwork and to contribute positively to our school, community and neighborhood.  I am looking forward to the impact that we will make.

Lastly, I want to send well wishes to some of our 'Wildcats' that will not join us for the 2016-17 school year: Mrs. Willard (TA), Mrs. Wintermute (TA), Mrs. Brady (4th), Ms. Ernzen (Pre-K TA/DHH), Mr. Ropp (Pre-K TA/DHH), Mrs. Swabowski (SLP), Mrs. Mereness (SLP), Ms. Taylor (Psychologist), Mrs. Smith (Cafeteria).  I want to take this opportunity to welcome our new family members: Ms. Michelle Restko (Psychologist), Mrs. Laura Maier (SLP), Mrs. Valerie Swan (TA), Ms. Nicole Rogers (Pre-K), Ms. Melissa Joyce (Pre-K TA/DHH), as well as our new Pre-K students, Kindergarten students and families.

As we continue our journey together, we are charged to make a positive impact.  Let's take ACTION Wildcats!

Your proud instructional leader,
Toia Jones
