Mr. Michael Mitchinson

Principal

Each day I enjoy every minute working with a wonderful staff, dynamite children and a supportive parent community.

My background includes attending the University of Iowa, Iowa City, where I earned my bachelor’s degree in elementary education. I then earned my master’s degree in educational leadership from Aurora University, in Aurora, Ill. I have been involved in education for 20 years. I have taught language arts, reading, math, geography and American history in grades six through eight. Also, I have served as an assistant principal in District 303 and spent seven years as a principal in School District 58. Not only have I spent a lot of time in classrooms, I have also spent many hours on the athletic fields and in gymnasiums coaching children of all ages.

I am excited to be part of the School District 308 administrative team!  Each day I look forward to meeting and working closely with the students, families and staff. Working together there is nothing we cannot accomplish.

Mr. Paul Southwell

Assistant Principal

It is an honor to be able to return to Boulder Hill again this year to work with you and your children!

I began my education career by getting a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Messiah College in Grantham, PA. I then moved to Costa Rica where I taught in a one room school house to approximately 80 students in grades K-6. Upon returning to the states, I attended the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where I received a master's degree in curriculum and instruction with a focus on language and literacy. At that time I began working as a reading specialist in Rantoul City Schools while I pursued my bilingual education certification. I then took a job in Long Grove, Ill. in Lake County working as a bilingual teacher for second and third grade. It was this position that sparked my interest in administration as I saw the difference that a committed principal could make in bringing the community together.

I am excited to be part of the School District 308 administrative team!  Each day I look forward to meeting and working closely with the students, families and staff. Working together there is nothing we cannot accomplish.
